Liffey Sound is a not for profit Community radio station for Lucan and its environs, run largely by volunteers; It was re-registered as a Co-operative society in 2003 and licenced to broadcast in 2006. We began broadcasting in October 2006 and in 2008, started live streaming on the internet. Liffey Sound currently broadcasts live for 58 hours a week – weekdays from 4 to 10 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m to 10 p.m. Our current licence Authority of Ireland (B.A.I) to have it extended for another ten years.

We are one of  27 community radio stations around the country and a member of Craol, these stations. Being a community radio station means we are different from commercial stations, and have a different purpose. As per our Mission statement: “Liffey Sound FM is committed to serving its community irrespective of creed, class, colour or race; to giving a voice to those not served by the mainstream broad casting services: to educating, informing and inspiring people in our community and to promoting a sense of community and civic pride”

We have some 50 volunteers who mostly present programmes and they elect a Board to agree policy and to work with our recently appointed station manager, Mairead Cullen, in ensuring its implementation.
